Comparative Tasting Dinner at Safety Beach Sailing Club

While April is such a busy month with Easter and. Anzac Day, it is also the time for this exciting event on the FMPV Calendar.

At this stage the menu is now set (see below), the venue reserved and excellent speakers from both regions have been secured. The wines and have been chosen.

All we need is more Members and their Guests to generate the usual BUZZ as we sip and munch our way through the evening, unmask the wines and declare the WINNER.

For new members and Guests here is a brief outline on how the night will unfold.

On arrival we will be welcomed with a glass of chilled 2018 Elgee Park Vintage sparkling to accompany chef David Snooks’ canapés whist mingling and greeting friends.

People will then take their allocated seats at their table and two glasses per wine variety is presented masked, accompanied by a course of complementary food. The preferred wine of every person is tallied by the Table Captain and announced, and an overall tally made and the winning region announced.

Wines are unmasked and the speaker of the region sourcing the comments on the wine, vineyard, winemaker and vintage.
This process is repeated for each variety being compared: Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. For this competition, wines presented are matched current vintages readily available at an accessible price point (around $30).

At the conclusion a Grand Tally is made and the region with the most preferred wines is declared Overall Winner; the speakers sum up while people finish their dessert accompanied by an interesting sweet wine.

Dress code:  please dress smartly

Note:  There will be a breathalyser available for Drivers to check BAC levels if they wish.
